Fraser Coast 2031: Sustainable Growth Strategy
The Fraser Coast Regional Council has embarked on a Whole of Council Area Planning project, which comprises two main components.
Council has commenced Component 1 - the development of the Fraser Coast 2031: Sustainable Growth Strategy, which will subsequently influence Component 2 - the drafting of the first single planning scheme for the entire Fraser Coast Regional Council area.
The objectives of Fraser Coast 2031 is to provide:- a vision for the Fraser Coast based on community aspirations;
- a strategic framework for the sustainable growth of the Fraser Coast to 2031; and
- the foundation for Component 2 - a Whole of Fraser Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme.
- urban design and planning;
- infrastructure and engineering;
- environment, open space and landscape architecture;
- economics; and
- social and recreation planning.
Why do we need it?
Fraser Coast 2031 will involve developing a unified vision for the Fraser Coast region and ensuring that future planning is approached from this perspective. It will also ensure that we have complete and current information to prepare a new planning scheme.
The new vision for Fraser Coast 2031 will be reflected in the following strategies:- Sustainability;
- Natural Environment;
- Open Space;
- Character and Identity;
- Community Health and Wellbeing;
- Access and Mobility;
- Infrastructure and Services;
- Economic Development;
- Land Use Pattern; and
- Sequencing of Development.
Project Timeline

What questions will Fraser Coast 2031 pose for our community?
The community will be invited to think about these questions:- What is the community's vision and aspirations for the next 20 years?
- Where should we direct population growth and how should we accommodate new residents?
- What services need to be planned for and how do we provide these services to our community?
- How do we preserve our heritage and character and ensure new development contributes to our vision?
- How do we ensure we have strong communities which have equitable access to infrastructure and services?
- How do we respect our environment, respond to climate change and fulfill our responsibilities to future generations, using sustainability principles?
Get Involved
There will be a number of opportunities to be involved throughout the course of the project.
The community will be invited to contribute to the project in the following ways:- Community Surveys;
- Online Discussion and Forums;
- Community Workshop; and
- Project Hotline.
