Fraser Coast 2031: Sustainable Growth Strategy

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has embarked on a Whole of Council Area Planning project, which comprises two main components.

Council has commenced Component 1 - the development of the Fraser Coast 2031: Sustainable Growth Strategy, which will subsequently influence Component 2 - the drafting of the first single planning scheme for the entire Fraser Coast Regional Council area.

The objectives of Fraser Coast 2031 is to provide:
  • a vision for the Fraser Coast based on community aspirations;
  • a strategic framework for the sustainable growth of the Fraser Coast to 2031; and
  • the foundation for Component 2 - a Whole of Fraser Coast Regional Council Planning Scheme.
The project will be undertaken by Council in conjunction with a team of specialist consultants from a number of disciplines including:
  • urban design and planning;
  • infrastructure and engineering;
  • environment, open space and landscape architecture;
  • economics; and
  • social and recreation planning.

Why do we need it?

Fraser Coast 2031 will involve developing a unified vision for the Fraser Coast region and ensuring that future planning is approached from this perspective. It will also ensure that we have complete and current information to prepare a new planning scheme.

The new vision for Fraser Coast 2031 will be reflected in the following strategies:
  • Sustainability;
  • Natural Environment;
  • Open Space;
  • Character and Identity;
  • Community Health and Wellbeing;
  • Access and Mobility;
  • Infrastructure and Services;
  • Economic Development;
  • Land Use Pattern; and
  • Sequencing of Development.

  • How do we preserve our heritage and character and ensure new development contributes to our vision?
  • How do we ensure we have strong communities which have equitable access to infrastructure and services?
  • How do we respect our environment, respond to climate change and fulfill our responsibilities to future generations, using sustainability principles?
